UCSD Medical Center - Hillcrest is an eleven story, 440-bed hospital located on UCSD's Medical Campus in the heart of San Diego. This is the primary site for our pulmonary special procedures unit, the advanced lung disease program (pulmonary rehabilitation, lung transplant program, intersitial lung disease, and lung volume reduction), pulmonary function laboratory, and sleep disorder laboratory. The UCSD Medical Center houses extensive diagnostic laboratories, a large and well-equipped emergency suite, is a Level I Trauma Center and has a thirteen-bed medical intensive care unit. The patient care units consist of four-bed, two-bed, and single rooms.

John M. and Sally B. Thornton Hospital is a 120-bed facility built on the philosophy that when surrounded by a comfortable environment the healing process is easier. This is the primary site for our world-renown pulmonary vascular program. Thornton Hospital is home to our Pulmonary Vascular Center, (primary pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary thromboembolic disease) and provides emergency services as well as a 12-bed ICU. Fellows will have hands-on experience in treating PTE patients as well as rotations in the ICU.

The La Jolla VA Medical Center is a 355-bed hospital and is one of the most modern and best-equipped VA hospitals in the country. It provides a broad spectrum of programs and services. The La Jolla VA services veterans residing in San Diego, Imperial, and southern portions of San Bernardino counties. The professional staff consists entirely of full-time members of the UCSD faculty. An extensive outpatient program is provided at the Medical Center which in turns offers our fellows an excellent opportunity for learning and practical experience. In addition to elaborate patient care facilities, it contains extensive and varied research facilities. The VA Medical Center is an integral part of the School of Medicine and the PCCM Training Program
