Dr. Jose Loredo heads up UCSD Sleep Medicine Center

Dr. Jose Loredo is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, a specialist in Internal Medicine and is board certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is a faculty member of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UCSD.

Jose Loredo, MD

Dr. Loredo's memberships and affiliations include:

  • American Academy of Sleep Medicine
  • American Thoracic Society
  • Fellow of the College of Chest Physicians.

Dr. Loredo completed a combined MD/MS degree at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his training in Internal Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, Baystate Medical Center in 1988.

He practiced general medicine in rural Alabama for four years. Dr. Loredo came to UCSD Medical Center in 1992 to complete a three year fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. While at UCSD, Dr. Loredo also completed his training in Sleep Medicine under the guidance and mentoring of Dr. Sonia Ancoli-Isreal, Dr. Jack Clausen, and Dr. Joel Dimsdale.

Dr. Loredo is actively involved in clinical research dealing with the role of chemoreceptors in obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension, the role of arousals from sleep in sympathetic nervous system activation, and sleep-health in Hispanics.

Dr. Loredo shares his commitment to Sleep Medicine by actively mentoring, guiding, and training physicians to become sleep medicine specialists. His commitment to medicine and research is seen by his involvement as chair of the UCSD Clinical Research Center (GCRC) and the GCRC Advisory Committee.
