  • Dr. Finn wishes to thank all faculty and staff who participated in the Asthma Walk, sponsored by the American Lung Association, on September 30 at Liberty Station.  UCSD was well represented by the Pulmonary Division.
  • Dr. Ries wishes to thank the Pulmonary Rehab Team for the Pulmonary Rehab Walk that took place on September 14, 2007.  De Anza Cove had a "western" feel to it as staff and walkers joined the western theme of the walk.
  • Dr. Finn wishes to thank PCCM faculty and staff during this difficult time of the wild fires for their generosity and kindness.  All members of the Pulmonary Family are well and getting back to normal operations.

HEALTH AWARENESS - OCTOBER AND NOVEMBER

A reminder that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. 

The Pulmonary Division - Pulmonary Vascular Group - would like to invite all to participate in the PAH Walk on November 3, 2007.  There will be opportunity drawings, food, and lots of fun.  The walk will take place on the campus of Thornton Hospital.

COPD Month and World COPD Day, November 14, 2007.

UCSD Medical Center has its own specialist in the treatment of COPD, Dr. Smita Desai.  Dr. Desai will be involved in a study of a new medication for the treatment of COPD.

Dr. Timothy Morris continues research in the area of DVT

Dr. Morris received an Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ) Partners in Safety (PIPS) grant to implement the Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT) program that will be introduced in March in conjunction with DVT Awareness Month.

Dr. Andrew Ries receives top honor from American Lung Association.   Dr. Ries was awarded the Michael Stulbarg Memorial California Medal by the ALA.  He has been recognized by the ALA for his "meritorious contributions to the understanding and treatment of lung disease". 

Dr. Ries has devoted his entire career to the treatment of patients with chronic lung disease and has helped to create one of the world's best pulmonary rehabilitation programs at UCSD Medical Center.
