Salary and Benefits

Salary: Fellowship salary is determined by post-graduate year (PGY) status, as for residency training. A reasonable cost of living increase can be expected each year.

ATS Stipend: Fellows attending the annual American Thoracic Society (ATS) International Conference will receive a stipend to cover travel costs.

Vacation: Fellows receive 4 weeks vacation.

Health and Dental Insurance: Fellows are eligible for enrollment in the UCSD health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans. There is no premium charged to the fellow for the cost of enrollment in the health, dental, and vision plans either for the fellow, spouse, dependent children, or domestic same or opposite sex partner. There is no premium charge to the fellow for enrollment in the life insurance or disability plans.

Sick Leave: Fellows accrue sick leave at the rate of 8 hours (one working day) per month, which is the equivalent of 12 working days per year. Physician documentation is required for illness lasting more than 3 days.

Worker's Compensation: Fellows are covered for medical expenses and lost work time due to injury or illness that is job related.

Maternity or Paternity Leave: Although not a separate leave, fellows may use a combination of sick leave, accrued and/or advance vacation leave to allow six weeks of postpartum leave. Fellows will be allowed annual leave (sick/vacation time) to allow time for family bonding.

Other Benefits: Military leave, HIV benefit, credit union privileges, direct deposit and unemployment insurance are included in the fellow's benefit package. Details about all these programs are available through Human Resources.
