We are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment within the PCCSMP division and the PCCM fellowship programs, where all individuals have the opportunity to excel and contribute. We strive to develop future leaders in academic medicine.
PCCSM&P Committee on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
This committee, currently chaired by Dr. Angela Wang and Dr. Chantal Darquenne, was established to ensure and advocate for an inclusive workplace environment in which employees of all backgrounds are supported and heard. This committee promotes cultural awareness and celebrates the unique contributions of each individual.
Our current Initiatives
Promoting Awareness and Understanding: We aim to increase awareness of potential biases and promote understanding through educational modules and guest speakers.
Engagement with Diverse Organizations: Our faculty and fellows actively participate in organizations that promote inclusivity and professional development. Examples include the San Diego Lung Ladies, the California Medicine Scholars Program, and relevant campus-wide initiatives.
Continuous Improvement of Recruitment Processes: We continually evaluate and update our recruitment process to ensure a fair and equitable selection process, recognizing the importance of each applicant's pre-fellowship journey. We aim to ensure all applicants are reviewed fairly.
Community Engagement: Our PCCSM faculty and fellows provide care to underserved populations at free clinics in the city. We also engage in international collaborations, such as assisting providers at Tijuana General Hospital, conducting research on pulmonary physiology and infections globally, and providing service to individuals of all nationalities.
