George Cheng, M.D. Ph.D.

Dr. Cheng completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Combined Pulmonary Critical Care Training Program and his Interventional Pulmonology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency training. As the Director of Interventional Pulmonology at UC San Diego, he leads a comprehensive academic program in Interventional Pulmonology and thoracic therapeutics. His work focuses on robotic and image-guided bronchoscopy, cone-beam CT–based navigation, and translational biomaterials for targeted lung cancer therapy. He has led multiple multicenter clinical trials in minimally invasive diagnostics and localized therapeutics.

Keriann Van Nostrand, M.D.
- IP Fellowship Program Director
Dr Van Nostrand completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine. Following that, she pursued a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the same institution, serving as the Didactic Chief Fellow and later as the Chief Fellow. She further specialized in Interventional Pulmonology through a fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine. She is the Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship Program Director and has a research focus in clinical education in Interventional Pulmonology.

Niral Patel, M.D.
- BLVR Program Lead
Dr. Patel completed his Internal Medicine training at Henry Ford, Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship training at Yale University and Interventional Pulmonology training at University of Colorado/National Jewish Health. He is leading the bronchoscopic volume reduction program at UCSD and has research interest in multiple areas of Interventional Pulmonology.

Jorge Munoz-Pineda, M.D.
- Trach-PEG Program Lead
Dr. Munoz received his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and went on to complete his IM residency at New York Presbyterian - Weill Cornell Medical Center. He completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at Stanford University, followed by Interventional Pulmonology fellowship at Harvard BIDMC-MGH. Besides clinical work, he has a keen interest in research, teaching, and leadership, notably initiating a diversity council at Stanford University Hospital and contributing to community outreach and advocacy for under-represented groups in the medical field -
Bryce Duchman, M.D.

Dr. Duchman completed his residency, chief residency, medical degree, and fellowship in pulmonology and critical care at the University of Iowa. He completed his Interventional Pulmonology training at UCSD and stayed on as a faculty member. -
Russell Miller, M.D.
Dr. Miller completed his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. He then completed his Interventional Pulmonology fellowship at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. -
