The Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program is a 3-year ACGME-accredited training program designed to train individuals to become outstanding skilled clinicians and accomplished scholars in academic pulmonary & critical care medicine.
The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep Medicine and Physiology consists of approximately 21 fellows and over 40 full-time faculty members. Fellows spend 2 years in clinical training, followed by one or more years of protected, mentored research time to participate in basic science, translational, or clinical research. Opportunities for participation in the NIH-sponsored T32 research training grant are available to fellows in the program. A 4th year of training and beyond are encouraged, and accommodations will be made to suit individual goals.
The UC San Diego Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Fellows typically sit for the ABIM subspecialty board in Pulmonary Disease during their 3rd year of fellowship. At the conclusion of their training, fellows will be eligible to sit for the ABIM subspecialty board in Critical Care Medicine.

The UC San Diego Medical Center collectively is a national and international referral center and also serves as the principal teaching institution for the UCSD School of Medicine. The UC San Diego Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center with active lung, heart-lung, heart, renal, liver and bone marrow transplant programs. The UC San Diego Medical Center offers medical, neuro, surgical, cardiac, burn, trauma, and neonatal intensive care units. The special programs of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine include the Pulmonary Vascular Program, Chronic Pulmonary Infections, Cystic Fibrosis, Lung Transplantation, Advanced Lung Disease, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and Sleep Medicine programs.
