Research
The Darquenne lab uses an interdisciplinary approach combining lung physiology with engineering principles. To learn more about the research achievements of the laboratory, click on the hyperlinks in the text below.
The first and main research focus of the lab is on the fate of inhaled aerosol in the lung. The laboratory has made major contributions in 1) the development of numerical models that simulate the transport and deposition of aerosols in the lung, 2) the study of aerosol inhalations in humans in altered gravity, and 3) the development and application of an animal model to study aerosol deposition in-situ using Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
More recently, the laboratory has expanded its research interests to the study of lung ventilation and aerosol deposition in health and disease, and on upper airway dynamics.
